About Michael Sala
I am a (temporarily or permanently) retired social worker who spent the majority of my 20+ year career working with children, primarily in Special Education. I learned a great deal about emotional arousal, co-regulation, trauma, cultivating a mindful and peaceful presence, and in retrospect, although we tend not to use this word professionally, love. My interests expanded holistically over time to include becoming a yoga instructor, a Thai bodyworker, and an energy medicine practitioner. After a perspective-changing, mystical experience in 2007, I added spirituality to my growing list of pursuits. From 2013 to 2015, I enjoyed a sabbatical from working life while moving across the world with my husband to live in Mumbai, India. This was a time of great learning on many levels. Upon returning, my passion turned toward end of life. I volunteered and then worked as a social worker in hospice care for a total of three and a half years. Learning about death helped me to deepen my understanding of allowance (i.e., non-judgment), unconditional love, and impermanence. When the demands of systems and technological devices seemed out of balance with meaningful interactions and relationships, it was time for me to move on again. I currently learn about early childhood development through working as a classroom assistant at a Montessori preschool, where my day-to-day life feels simpler and more meaningful, and my life lessons include gratitude, patience, humility, and, again, love.

My growing passion in recent years has been poetry. Reading, contemplating, and writing about poetry not only brings me joy and satisfaction but also informs the way that my mind works to find and make meaning. I believe it enhances the skills I bring to the work of Spiritual Guidance and Death Midwifery.
